Simon Child – Field Hockey Player for New Zealand

“Beautiful stadium. Nice Pitch. Plays well…”greenfields

Simon Child explains how the 2014 World Cup hockey pitch suits the New Zealand hockey team’s fast style of play:

“It’s a good feeling. Its something we have been looking forward to for a long time and we have been training really hard so its nice to have our first hockey game in the beautiful stadium.”

“Its a nice pitch. You know it plays very well. It’s nice and flat.”

“For us we like it a little bit fast. We like to play a quick game of hockey. Whilst it’s nice to have a little bit of water on it so the ball is nice and flat, it would be good to have it not overly watered so we can play our style of play, which is a bit faster than some of the other teams.”

“We’re pretty realistic about our chances. We’d love to make the top 4 and we think its a realistic goal but reaching the top 6 would be a pleasing result for us.”
